Guided by creative and enthusiastic faculty committed to language immersion, students explore topics ranging from literature, film, and politics to cuisine. Today, students may study francophone literature; tomorrow, they may learn the idioms of contemporary French business-speak through e-mail conversations with students across the Atlantic. Field trips to immigrant neighborhoods like Chinatown and Pilsen allow students to meet and learn from native-speakers. Because of our close ties to the city's cultural institutions, students pursue internships with organizations like the Alliance Fran?aise and the Chicago Latino Film Festival. We offer coursework in Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, and Spanish as well as occasional courses in Portuguese, and we strongly encourage language majors to study abroad.
