Emergency Medical Services Basic from Lake Land College is a Campus Certificate Medical Emergency degree that prepares you for a Healthcare career. The EMT-Basic class is a one semester course. The course includes classroom skills in addition to ambulance and hospital clinical training. With successful completion of the class, the student will be eligible for the National Registry or State of Illinois EMT-Basic licensing examination. EMT-Basic licensure is a prerequisite for eligibility for the Paramedic Program. This program is conducted in cooperation with Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center and is approved by the Illinois Department of Public Health, Division of EMS and Highway Safety. There are some conditions for which the Illinois Department of Public Health may refuse to issue a license. Please contact the EMS Director to avoid license application restrictions. Students finishing this EMT-Basic class are prepared for career opportunities in the field of Emergency Medical Services (EMS), including, but not limited to, urban and rural ambulance services and/or fire departments; industrial settings; clinical settings; and positions overseas.
