Among the opportunities planned is ?service-learning? opportunities, such as with Habitat for Humanities. Another unique aspect of the program is planned annual Construction Career Tables. Career Tables is designed as a career orientation, where students learn about the various sub-industries with the construction industry. Various representatives from the construction industry are invited to talk to students about their company and the industry they work within. Each representative visits with students informally at a table, talking to student for 10-15 minutes. At the end of the period, student rotate to the other tables at the event, until all or most of the tables are visited. In the end, both students and industry representatives have exchanged information about the industry and their careers. Program goals The faculty is dedicated to the success of the entire construction industry, but particular to students and graduates of the Reese Construction Management Program. Our goals for students is that they experience success in their career, both immediate and long-term, that they earn a degree that they are proud to own, and that they have a positive learning experience while at Lamar University . The curriculum is particularly designed for construction management professionals, individuals who manage a variety of technical situations. The curriculum is also designed with the needs of SE Texas in mind, particularly the petrochemical and heavy (waterways, docks, and harbors) construction industry. The Reese Construction Management Program is one of a very few programs that offer a combination of technical, business, and construction management courses. As a result students benefit from a strong background in construction technology as well as that business background that will help them as graduates in working with corporations, budgets and contracts.
