These comprehensive two-year degrees can be tailored to prepare a student for further study in mathematics at the doctoral level, for employment in industry, or for a career in the public school system. Support is available at the level of $13,000 per nine month period with the possibility of additional summer support for highly qualified candidates. Lamar University's tuition and course fees are well below the state average and the Golden Triangle region has a low cost of living. Potential duties include grading for faculty, working in our computing and tutoring laboratories, teaching under the direction of a faculty member, and full responsibility for a class for those students who have completed eighteen hours of graduate study in mathematics. The department supports a wide range of courses and yet remains small enough for students to receive individual attention from faculty. Our graduate students have a real sense of community. Despite the fact that the faculty is filled with accomplished researchers, the department places the welfare and teaching of students at the heart of its efforts. Our graduate faculty members have interests in complex analysis, computability theory, graph theory, integration theory, Lie algebras, logic, modeling, numerical analysis, numerical differential equations, probability, statistics, and symmetric spaces in addition the foundational fields of algebra, analysis, and topology. In addition, we have faculty members who have joint appointments between our department and the Department of Professional Pedagogy. View more details on Lamar University .
