Program Mission Statement The mission of the Cosmetology (1250 hours) program is to prepare people for skilled, innovative and productive careers. Program Goals All Cosmetology students will demonstrate proficiency on the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA), complete the State Board of Cosmetology Licensing exam, and earn National Skill Certificates; ie. National Occupational Competency Testing Institute (NOCTI) and Pennsylvania Skill Certificates . All Cosmetology students will obtain the basic cosmetology skills needed to gain an entry level cosmetology position. All Cosmetology students will be proficient in their career major and demonstrate proficiency through hands-on performance and theoretical testing. Program Description Although styles and fashions change from year to year, the work of cosmetologists remains the same ? helping people to look their best. Cosmetology, offered at all three campuses, teaches techniques in the art of hair, nail, and skin care. Instruction covers shampooing, hair styling, permanent waving, coloring, chemical hair relaxing, skin care, manicuring, temporary hair removal, scalp treatment, make-up analysis and care of all hair types and textures. Students must complete 1250 hours of instruction before they are eligible to take the State Board of Cosmetology licensure examination. In order to obtain 1250 hours, high school seniors are required to complete their training by enrolling in a cosmetology program at LCCTC the summer after their senior year.
