Medical Assistant from Lancaster County Career and Technology Center is a Campus Certificate Health Aide degree that prepares you for a Healthcare career. Program Mission Statement The mission of the Medical Assistant program is to prepare people for skilled, innovative and productive careers. Program Goals All Medical Assistant students will demonstrate proficiency on the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA) and earn National Skill Certificates; ie. National Occupational Competency Testing Institute (NOCTI) and Pennsylvania Skill Certificates . All Medical Assistant students will successfully transition onto a 1st career job and/or related post secondary training. All Medical Assistant students will be proficient in their career major and demonstrate proficiency through hands-on performance and theoretical testing. Program Description Medical assistants are professional, multi-skilled individuals who perform administrative and clinical duties in health care settings. The Medical Assistant program includes studies in anatomy and physiology, health insurance coding and billing, medical terminology, medical law and ethics, pharmacology, clinical and administrative skills. In addition, curriculum includes clinical skills such as phlebotomy, laboratory tests, minor surgical procedures, medication administration and performing and interpreting electrocardiograms. During the fourth making period, students who have successfully completed program requirements may participate in a six-week clinical experience in a physician's office. The National Health Career Association (NHA) participates with the program to allow medical assistant students to receive certification through this agency. Students who participate in clinical may be eligible to sit for the exams to become certified as a clinical medical assistant, administrative medical assistant , phlebotomist and/or EKG technician. Students planning to pursue further health care training after high school should take the SAT or ACT testing during their junior year.
