Program Mission Statement The mission of the Nursing Assistant/Home Health Aide program is to prepare people for skilled, innovative and productive careers. Program Goals All Nursing Assistant/Home Health Aide students will demonstrate proficiency on the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA) and earn National Skill Certificates; ie. Pennsylvania Nurse Aide Registry by passing the written and skill tests, National Occupational Competency Testing Institute (NOCTI), Pennsylvania Skill Certificate and NA Registry by passing written and skill test. All Nursing Assistant/Home Health Aide students will successfully transition onto a 1st career job and/or related post secondary training. All Nursing Assistant/Home Health Aide students will be proficient in their career major and demonstrate proficiency through hands-on performance and theoretical testing. Program Description This rewarding program prepares students to work as nursing assistants in long-term care facilities and/or as an aide in the home care environment. A nursing assistant provides direct patient care while utilizing technical skills in tasks assigned by a registered nurse in the long term care setting. Nursing assistants complete and document patient care activities. This course is approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. This course will offer CNA training as well as Home Health Aide training. The curriculum includes medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, legal aspects of heath care, math, pharmacology, nutrition, growth and development, critical thinking skills, pathophysiology, and bedside care, as well as home health care. The physical ability to move patients, good hand-eye coordination, dependability, and compassion are required. This program offers students the ability to participate in clinical rotations at long-term care facilities; preparing students for nursing programs and other health care careers.
