Program Description The Banking and Finance course is one of three in Missouri which operate a student run bank. The course offers experience and training in personal finance, cash control and handling, entrepreneurship, marketing, and credit. Areas of Training Microsoft Excel--This course covers the basics of Excel XP. Students will learn how to enter and edit information in a worksheet; manage and navigate worksheets and workbooks; perform calculations and manipulate worksheet data; format the worksheet contents; prepare, set up, and print information. Microsoft Word-- This course designed to provide a working knowledge of Microsoft Word XP for students who want to use the program to prepare typical business documents such as letter, memoranda and reports. Class exercises teach you to enter and edit text, set margins and page orientations, set type footers and footnotes, use the search and replace and spelling features, create line and boxes around text, and use the "table" feature. This course presents the basic concepts of Word XP screen component, test features, formatting procedures, and other related tasks. Accounting I--Accounting is the planning, keeping, analyzing and interpreting of financial records. Students are introduced to proprietorships and partnerships and both are presented in a complete accounting cycle covering analyzing transactions, journalizing, posting, petty cash, financial statements, and adjusting and closing entries. Students are taught from the perspective of professional business managers and accountants and therefore need to know how to use computers in order to be efficient in performing accounting tasks. Students will learn computerization, using a hands on approach, enter realistic accounting transactions for a variety of business applications, and generate basic financial statements and various management information reports. Banking and Finance I--This is an introductory course for banking and financial support services which operates a student bank. This course introduces the student to personal finance including opening and maintaining a checking account and managing credit. This course is designed to familiarize the student with all aspects of a typical bank including saving, loans, operations, and audit functions. Students will also learn the history of banking , the organizational structure of financial institutions, and the operations and marketing of a student bank. Banking and Finance II--This is an advanced course for those students who have already completed the first year of Banking and Finance. Students in this class will serve in leadership roles in the student bank and assist in developing first year student's learning of banking procedures. Students will also learn the various forms of investment such as developing a savings plan, mutual fund and large, purchase alternatives (buying cars, houses, insurance, etc.) Opening checking accounts as well as managing credit will also be covered in this course. Career Information Many of the graduated students successfully enter the work force in banking with six former students currently employed in banking .
