Medical Coder/Billing from Lee County High Tech Center North is a Campus Certificate Health Administration degree that prepares you for a Healthcare career. Mission Statement: The medical coder/billing program is designed to teach the fundamentals of coding/billing in a physician and hospital-based environment (managed care, physician?s office, multi-specialty clinic). This program is offered as a full-time day program and as an on-line program. A completer receives an Applied Technology Diploma (ATD) plus is eligible to sit for the national CPC exam through the American Academy of Professional Coders. The Medical Coder/Biller program can also be taken on-line for students who must work during the daytime. The Medical Coding program is nationally accredited by the Council on Occupational Education (COE). Description: The 1000-hour program follows the American Academy of Professional Coders curriculum guidelines with an emphasis on employment for entry-level coder/billers. The program prepares individuals to perform the following: Procedural (physician and hospital) and diagnostic coding (CPT-4, HCPCS, ICD-9 Volumes 1, 2, & 3) Completion/filing of insurance claim forms (CMS-1500, UB-92) Understand and apply third party guidelines Obtain reimbursement through accurate claims submission Monitor third-party reimbursement Coordinate patient care information with other health care providers The program allows flexible implementation of the curriculum and direct contact with a Professional Medical Coding Curriculum (PMCC) instructor approved by the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC). Previous medical work experience is considered when evaluating needed competencies for completion of program.
