The Music Curriculum and Instruction Specialist concentration offers three tracks: lecture/recital, teacher research and thesis. The thesis track allows students to develop music research tools, focus on an area of study pertinent to the field, research, write, and present that body of work. The teacher research track allows students to develop research projects in concert with their current teaching situations. The lecture/recital track allows students to select a repertoire in collaboration with an instructor, do extensive research on some aspect(s) of that repertoire, and prepare the repertoire for a graduate level public performance. All three tracks are designed for musicians currently teaching at all levels in the school system who wish to improve teaching skills and deepen their knowledge in a particular area of music . A recognized undergraduate degree in music education, a video of teaching or rehearsal and a valid Virginia Collegiate Professional Teaching License or equivalent from another state are required for admission.
