Music Production Associate from Los Angeles Music Academy details

Program Format: Campus Program Level: Associate

Music Production from Los Angeles Music Academy is a Campus Associate Music degree that prepares you for a Vocational Programs career. INTRODUCTION In His Own Words: An Interview With Department Chair Sean Halley What's your vision for the Music Production Program? My vision for the Music Production Program is to treat it much like the other programs at the Academy ? that being a music producer is a discipline requiring technique and study, much like anything else here. If you're a drummer and you prefer rock music, you're still going to get a very strong helping of jazz and brushwork, as well as funk and r&b, here at the school. The perspective gained from participating in areas outside of our primary interests are invaluable. How would some of our favorite music even exist without the mix that comes from varying and wide influences? The Clash and The Police would never have had reggae elements, Jimi Hendrix would never have influenced Miles Davis, and DJ culture would simply not exist. Students in the Production Program will be exposed to all the varying aspects of production and will gather the necessary skills to compete as a music producer in the real world whether or not they are personally the artist on the project in question. Why should a prospective music producer come to the LA Music Academy, and what kinds of skills should a student who graduates with a Degree in Music Production expect to have that will give them an edge over the competition? The Music Production Program is unique in the sense that we treat Production as a skill set, much like guitar or vocal proficiency would normally be viewed. This means that the program covers a tremendous amount of ground in a short time and touches many areas that other programs simply do not, such as instrumental training throughout the entire program. Having this instrumental background, you'll be able to communicate with musicians more effectively than someone without this knowledge, which will give you a big advantage over many producers out there. Not to mention, as a music producer in the modern world, you must know about dozens of jobs that used to be handled by other people ? you must have engineering and mic technique, basic songwriting and composition, studio upkeep and basic room design, interpersonal communication skills, strong musical computer skills, and financial knowledge in your personal toolbox. We teach all of that in the program and more. Plus, you'll earn your Pro Tools Certification as a part of the program, so that certainly won't hurt your chances of getting work! By the end of the program, a student in the Production Program will be uniquely prepared to do battle in the modern world ? the curriculum is unique, the school's location in Los Angeles gives unrivaled access to professionals from all facets of the industry, and the other LA Music Academy students provide inspiration, a wealth of talent to pull from, and a world of their own influences to share and experience in a way that no other school can offer. What words of advice would you like to give to someone considering the Music Production program? My advice to any prospective student in production is to come with an open musical mind and to bone up on your computer skills. Obviously, technology will play a major role in the development of the student, and the stronger your grasp of that technology at the beginning of the program, the better prepared you'll be at the end. Just as the personal computer has changed the world of production, making it possible for anyone to create music virtually anywhere, the teaching of production must change as well. The very definition of the word "producer" changes depending on who you're speaking to, which means that a student must be prepared for anything. Here, you'll learn to create music by yourself, in groups, and in groups that you do not participate instrumentally in, with large amounts of technological help and also very little. You'll learn the inner workings of a number of different styles and genres ? with an emphasis on not just one instrument, but all those involved in the production, and you'll be shown both traditional methods of working and encouraged to break those methods to make your own way. Whether it's setting up a temporary studio in a hotel room to record vocals, or working in a professional facility with a large infrastructure, you'll learn how to be fifteen people in one whether you choose to produce hip hop artists or record folk records for yourself. After we're through, it will be up to you. View more details on Los Angeles Music Academy . Ask your questions and apply online for this program or find other related Music courses.
