The theatre major has been designed for students who wish to pursue careers in an array of arts and entertainment areas. Graduates will be qualified for professional entry-level jobs, and as strong candidates for graduate and professional schools. The general theatre major exists for those students wishing a broad exposure to the totality of theatre art. Students may also select an emphasis in performance or design-technology. The performance emphasis focuses on an integrative process that sets an actor in motion physically, verbally, and emotionally, leading to creative and informed choices in character development and dramatic texts. The design/technical emphasis focuses on the development of the skills and artistic abilities required for production in theatre arts. Students learn skills in the areas of lighting, sound, scenery, props, stage management, and other related positions. Students actively apply their classroom education by participating in the College's main stage theatre productions, student-generated productions in the studio theatre, dance concerts, and through scenic, lighting, costume, and box-office student employment opportunities. Majors are also encouraged to study in other disciplines in the School of Communication and the Arts. Students regularly interview, audition for, and find work in professional summer theatres .
