Gerontology from Manchester College is a Campus Associate Gerontology degree that prepares you for a Science career. Ours is a time of dramatic changes in population demographics. One significant change is the growing number of elders in our own country and in most of the rest of the world. By 2030, older people are projected to make up 25 percent of the U.S. population (doubling today's numbers). As citizens and workers, we need to know how to meet the multiple needs of older adults - both frail and thriving ones. We also need to learn how to encourage their potential contributions to improving our world. The gerontology program at Manchester College allows students to explore the physical, psychological, social, environmental, financial and spiritual aspects of aging. Students are given an array of learning opportunities - classroom exercises and activities, field trips, service learning, interviewing of elders, and if desired, even practicums or internships in aging-related settings.
