Program Format: Campus Program Level: Bachelor

Geology from Marietta College is a Campus Bachelor Geology degree that prepares you for a Science career. The best way to learn about geology is to get out and see it. As a geology major at Marietta you'll travel all over the Central Appalachian Mountains studying mountainous terrain, rock types, and geological structures first-hand. Major fossil-hunting expeditions to Utah and Colorado -- along with digs in Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana -- provide even more opportunities to pursue field research with professionals. Back on campus, you'll have the additional resources and support of our nationally recognized petroleum engineering program and our environmental science program, as well as the Geology Department's extensive collection of research materials and lab equipment. Geology majors complete a field- or laboratory-based research project modeled on the thesis required for a Master's of Science degree in Geology. Students propose a project focused within a subdiscipline of geology that they plan to pursue after graduation. In completing this project, the student will have a greater potential to "hit the ground running" in their subsequent graduate or professional careers. Student work is independent and self-driven, but students work closely with a geology professor as project adviser and mentor. Students complete a series of written assignments, oral presentations, and poster sessions that culminate in the writing of a comprehensive report of their findings.
