Mission Statement for the Mars Hill College Athletic Training Major The mission of the Mars Hill College Athletic Training major is to provide a comprehensive, progressive educational program to prepare the liberal arts student for a career in athletic training. The Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) accredits athletic training educational programs. The CAATE accredited educational program includes formal instruction and clinical experience in the prevention, recognition, evaluation, and rehabilitation of the physically active. This preparation along with successfully passing the Board of Certification (BOC) examination will qualify students for entry-level careers in athletic training. Philosophy of the Mars Hill College Athletic Training Program The athletic trainer is associated with every sport and team of Mars Hill College. The athletic training student is an integral part of the Athletic training Program. Together, they form the Athletic Training Staff, whose job is to provide the necessary first contact with the injured athlete. In addition to caring for the injured athlete, the athletic training staff is responsible for: the prevention of athletic injuries, recognition, treatment, and care to all injured athletes, supervision of all treatments, and the rehabilitation of the injured athlete. For our athletic teams to be successful at Mars Hill, everyone from the coaches, the athletes, the team managers and the athletic trainers must be dedicated and enthusiastic. We must work as hard or harder than the athletes who practice daily. We must be willing to deliver up to our full potential: in the classroom, the athletic training facility, and on the practice field or court. Our success as a staff (as an educational program) will be measured on how well you perform in the classroom, how you conduct yourself among the coaches and athletes and how well you perform the skills necessary to become an athletic trainer.
