MSU's BA in Studies in Education prepares you to assist teachers in making an impact on the lives of children. The Program The BA in Studies in Education will provide an opportunity for you to complete coursework that will build a strong educational foundation in a student cohort system. You will learn to use research-based instructional strategies, create unit plans and lesson plans and apply performance-based assessment practices while developing teaching skills in three feld experiences (i.e., Nature Trail; Grade 4 TLC; fve-week school-based). Advantages Hands-on experience - You will literally teach school-aged children (grades 1-6) from regional elementary schools. Full-time advisors and supervisors - University professors will teach the courses in which you are enrolled. They will observe you while you teach during field experiences; they will provide constructive feedback, both written and oral. They will serve as mentors. They will also serve as your academic advisor so that you can be assured you are taking the correct sequence of courses. A Word About Our Grads This major is designed to provide opportunities for those who have a strong desire to work with children, but prefer to perform teaching and organizing duties under the supervision of a certified educator. The BA in Studies in Education does NOT lead to licensed certification; consequently, these tests are NOT required: (1)PRAXIS I Pre-Professional Skills Test (2) PRAXIS II Elementary Education and the Principles of Learning and Teaching. The BA in Studies in Education requires additional coursework in reading ? Teaching Reading in the Content Area and Remedial Reading Practicum.
