Purpose The Theatre program is designed to give majors a theatre education firmly grounded in the liberal arts, preparing them for further study in a graduate school or higher-level training program prior to pursuing a career; to serve non-majors through Core courses and electives; to educate the potential audience; and to provide opportunities for self-expression to those wishing to pursue Theatre as an avocation. Goals All members of the Methodist University community will have the opportunity to participate in, or to observe and respond to, the production component(s) of the Theatre program. Students who complete the Theatre Appreciation component of the General Education/Core Curriculum will have a basic understanding of the principles of drama and the processes of theatre production. Graduates who complete a major in Theatre will demonstrate basic knowledge of the canons of theatrical literature, history, and theory necessary as a foundation for producing a theatrical performance. Graduates who complete a major in Theatre will demonstrate knowledge of the fundamental performance skills required for producing a theatrical performance.
