A Clinical Laboratory Scientist is responsible for the operation of complex analytical instrumentation and computers, and is also highly skilled in staining cells and tissues, microscope use, interpreting test results, precision pipetting, administration and management, and quality assurance. The CLS curriculum offers up to date coursework in clinical immunology and serology, diagnostic laboratory instrumentation, molecular biology techniques, genetic techniques, clinical laboratory administration and management, and core concept integration and application, as well as the traditional core of courses in medical microbiology, hematology and coagulation, blood banking and clinical chemistry. In addition, students who desire research experience have numerous opportunities to work with members of the faculty, and a laboratory safety program is emphasized in all student and research laboratories.
