The academic curriculum for athletic training integrates academic knowledge and clinical training in six major areas: injury prevention; clinical evaluation and diagnosis; immediate care; treatment, rehabilitation and diagnosis; organization and administration; and professional responsibility. As an athletic trainer, you'll primarily work to help people avoid injuries, or treat injuries once they happen. You might work with professional, college or high school athletes, or other individuals whose jobs require lots of physical activity. You may work in collaboration with a physician or a sports coach. MNU's Athletic Training facilities offer state-of-the-art resources for injury treatment and physical rehab. The Olathe Medical Center Athletic Training Room contains nearly 2000 square feet of top-of-the-line facilities and equipment, with separate spaces for rehabilitation, taping and treatment, hydrotherapy and offices, plus a lab room with treatment tables. High-tech equipment includes a Kin-Com machine with personalized physical activity regimens, and a Swim-Ex Aquatic Therapy Pool. Meanwhile, the Fieldhouse Athletic Training Room offers three treatment tables, a full-length taping table, and many more resources for providing the best physical care to MNU athletes. Approved Clinical Instructors provide hands-on training and supervision so students can develop their clinical skills. These instructors are active professionals: successful athletic trainers, physical therapists and medical doctors.
