Specific areas of focus are piano, percussion, guitar, or vocal performance and Electronic Music. The Music Department along with the Fine Arts and Graphic Design Departments have most recently been certified as being the South Bay Regional Center for the California Multimedia Entertainment Initiative which is designed to prepare quality students for Silicon Valley\\\'s booming Multimedia Industry. The experienced instructors create an environment that both fulfills General Education Requirements and offers students exemplary preparation for the rigors of transfer into both university and vocational level programs. Student learning outcomes: Upon completion of the program, students will demonstrate: Basic proficiency in reading and writing of music notation and applying them to a specific musical instrument (i.e. piano, guitar, voice). Ability to identify elements of many types and styles of music, including historical periods, composers, performers, stylistic traits, cultural influences, and performance practices. Ability to perform in a musical ensemble (i.e. chorus, orchestra, contemporary/ jazz ensemble and Brass Ensemble). Apply musical skills with knowledge of MIDI devices (i.e. keyboards, computers, software) to create a musical composition. Ability to use music recording studio equipment for use with live and videotaped performance. This curriculum provides students with hand-on experience and a working knowledge of the creative and technical issues surrounding the production of digital audio content and its application and synchronization within other media.
