Goals & Outcomes To prepare students for employment and apprenticeship in the photographic industry upon completion of the 1-year program. Students should be competent in all of the following areas: 1. Black and White film processing and printing competency. 2. Color printing and processing competency. 3. Basic Digital Photographic technologies including image capture and output. 4. Digital software applications. 5. Understanding fundamental lighting techniques. 6. Students will produce prints exhibiting full tonal range 0-10. 7. Students will produce color prints exhibiting neutral color density. 8. Students will be able to digitally output prints exhibiting proper focus, exposure range, and resolution. 9. Students will successfully complete all tutorial exercises and projects contained within the digital software programs. To prepare students for transfer of credits into the 2-year AAS Photography program at MVCC or its equivalent or into a to a four-year institution. # Outcome: Students are accepted at a 2-year or 4 year photography program. Students will develop the means to effectively communicate through oral, written, and visual methods. Students will participate in project critiques demonstrating the ability to discuss both their own work and the work of their peers, as well as demonstrate respect and sensitivity to the cultural diversity represented by the critique participants. Students will demonstrate an ability to engage in analytical discourse with the instructor and peers. Students must competently and effectively communicate via written or oral exam for testing competencies. Students are expected to develop a professional portfolio or exhibition of works for public viewing. Students will be provided the opportunity to explore their individualized artistic sensibilities and understanding of historic figures in photography. Students will understand the works of numerous masters from various backgrounds and cultures in photography and the Arts. Students will research and organize resources to broaden their understanding of the field of Photography. Students will use technology effectively to collect, analyze and display data. Students will be able to access electronic sources effectively and efficiently to collect data. Students will successfully complete a major project using personal computer applications. Students will be able to safely and competently understand and operate various types of required photographic equipment. To prepare students to demonstrate information literacy.
