The Water Quality Program offers an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Water Quality Technology: Environmental Health and a Bachelor\\\'s of Science in Water Quality Technology: Environmental Health. The curriculum incorporates basic biological and chemical concepts with application for the designed treatment of water for drinking and treatment of wastewater prior to return to the natural environment. In addition, the program also includes fundamentals of hydraulics, distribution systems and groundwater. The Water Quality program prepares students to enter the workforce whether it is for a community public works or a governmental agency. Students learn technical analytical methodology to determine water quality characteristics along with state and federal monitoring and reporting requirements as part of the laboratory classes. They also learn critical data evaluation for the determination of effective process control through lectures on the processes utilized in treating drinking water or treating wastewater. Students also utilize analytical skills through the application of math skills by evaluating pumps, pumping efficiencies and determining pressure drops within distribution systems. The students also are required to participate in a cooperative education experience, which provides them with a hands-on application of their knowledge acquired through participation in the program. The students are prepared, through participation in this program, to become certified operators by taking and passing the state water/wastewater operator certification exams. All public water supply system and wastewater treatment systems require certified operators for employees.The Water Quality Technology program has two full-time faculty members that teach the specific technical water quality courses.
