Department Overview The Department of Industrial , Manufacturing, and Information Engineering offers a B. S. in Industrial Engineering. Program offerings are organized into four traditional specialties: Engineering Management, Manufacturing Systems, Information & Systems Engineering, and Ergonomics. The programs are intended to offer the students flexibility in building a program to fit their professional goals and needs. The Masters Program ME Program Requirements is a multidisciplinary engineering program of courses with the opportunity to specialize in one or more areas. The Doctoral program DE Program Requirements offers the opportunity to mix courses to provide both breadth and depth. A wide range of offerings in major and minor specialties can be selected from within and among MSU\\\\\\\'s departments. Some undergraduate courses may also be included in a student\\\\\\\'s program plan. The IMIE Department is currently accredited by ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering & Technology) as the only Industrial Engineering program in the state of Maryland. To meet these requirements, the department defines it vision, mission, objectives and outcomes for its program, students, and constituents as described below. IMIE Department Vision The vision of the Industrial, Manufacturing and Information Engineering Department at Morgan State University is to achieve state and national leadership in Industrial Engineering Education and Research. With a unique program of national and international prominence, our focus is on multidisciplinary and diverse learning experiences in integrated Industrial, Manufacturing and Information Systems. Such experiences will provide students, especially those from the urban environment, with the technical, managerial, human engineering, and communication skills to address and solve national and global engineering problems. IMIE Department Mission The mission of the Industrial Engineering Program at Morgan State University is to provide excellent undergraduate and graduate education and research opportunities to a diverse student body among which are African American and Hispanic students, as well as students from urban and other underrepresented communities. The Industrial Engineering Program will continuously improve its educational process to nurture and challenge these students to greater levels of engineering achievement and professional contribution to society through excellence and innovation in education, research, experiential learning, and in partnership with industry, government, and the citizens of Maryland. The Program Objectives of the IMIE department are to prepare future leaders in Industrial Engineering with the knowledge, skills, and tools: 1. To prepare students to apply an exemplary foundation in the basic sciences, computer technology and engineering methods to solving industrial as well as manufacturing engineering problems. 2. To provide students with the skills to perform industrial engineering design, product design, and analysis, using traditional methods of mechanical, energy and manufacturing engineering . 3. To prepare and train students to work in multi-disciplinary and diverse teams to solve a wide variety of both technical and non-technical problems. 4. To educate students in methods and skills that incorporate proven techniques in human engineering and ergonomics in developing engineering solutions. 5. To prepare students to apply new tools and techniques of computer and information technology to the solution of industrial engineering as well as manufacturing engineering problems. 6. To prepare students to readily communicate complex technical information to a wide variety of audiences in both written and oral form. 7. To provide students with tools to continue their professional development and life-long learning. Program Outcomes of the students from our B.S. in IE program are learning outcomes whereby graduates are expected to: 1. Function effectively in a diverse, multidisciplinary, multi-ethnic and multiple-gender teaming environment as an industrial engineering solution provider; 2. Recognize and be prepared to articulately describe and devise solutions to multifaceted, urban-specific industrial engineering problems and challenges; 3. Describe, model, design and recognize how to seek improvements to integrated systems and processes that incorporate energy, manufacturing processes, human engineering, service operations and information systems; 4. Use traditional and modern engineering tools, techniques and skills necessary for industrial engineering practice to conduct experiments and to analyze and interpret data; 5. Develop, formulate and implement the best potential solutions or resolutions to integrated industrial engineering problems or challenges; 6. Communicate information, investigations and results effectively and articulately, both written and oral; 7. Understand the importance and need for continuous professional development and life-long expansion of the knowledge base in the industrial engineering domain; 8.
