Through the biology major, students develop an understanding of scientific methods; practical application of concepts and development of field and lab skills are emphasized. The capstone seminar stimulates students to integrate ideas from coursework and to practice professional science presentation skills. Biology majors are encouraged to pursue their own individual goals and career interests through science electives, independent study, internships, research projects, summer research positions or field trips, work study opportunities, and participation in activities sponsored by the biology honorary society, Beta, Beta, Beta. Many students who have graduated with biology majors have gone on to succeed in graduate and professional programs in the health sciences . Other biology graduates have entered the workforce as conservation officers, naturalists, high school science teachers, laboratory technicians, sales representatives, and science writers.
