If qualified and if space allows, you will enter the nursing major in the fall term of your second year and go on to complete six semesters of nursing along with other college core courses. The nursing curriculum integrates theoretical nursing content, laboratory practice and clinical experience in acute care and community health. The collaboration of the nursing department with Mercy Medical Center and metro Catholic schools in Cedar Rapids has resulted in unique clinical experiences in the health promotion of children and adolescents. Under supervision of pediatric nurse practitioners (PNP), students perform screening, teaching and health promotion activities for more than 1,000 children from preschool to 12th grade. You will participate in a variety of closely supervised clinical experiences before completing the requirements for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree . As senior students you will be working in the community with a variety of agencies and learning about the leadership and management skills required of a nurse . These experiences, along with the essential liberal arts and sciences, prepare each student to begin a career as a professional nurse working with diverse populations in many different settings.
