Phlebotomy Technician Program Objective The objective of the phlebotomy courses at our Sacramento campus is to prepare students for Sacramento phlebotomy careers in a laboratory setting. Through their medical assisting training, phlebotomy courses will teach students the terminology used and anatomy associated with phlebotomy careers. At MTI College , the educational objectives will also help students to understand and be able to adhere to the proper protocols and procedures used in a laboratory environment. Phlebotomy Training Requirements In order to meet the Sacramento phlebotomy technician program\\\'s graduation requirements, phlebotomy training students must complete, at a minimum, a 40-hour unpaid laboratory externship in addition to the published phlebotomy technician course requirements. At no additional cost to the student, MTI College coordinates phlebotomy externships in the greater Sacramento area for qualified graduates. This additional hands-on phlebotomy training helps students to have a well-rounded phlebotomy education in preparation for their phlebotomy technician careers. Phlebotomy Career Description Phlebotomy technicians perform a variety of duties such as drawing blood from a patient\\\'s finger, heel, or vein, processing of specimens, and clerical duties, on a variety of patients.
