The program prepares nurse educators to teach undergraduate students in schools of nursing , assume leadership roles in staff development, and participate in innovative programs in health education within a global environment. The major goal of the program is to prepare graduates to teach in a variety of educational and healthcare settings including schools of nursing , staff development departments, and/or patient client education programs. Curriculum Graduates of the master?s program in nursing education are prepared with the essential research and theory core necessary for a career in nursing education. Students choose a practice specialty core in simulation or online education that extends their knowledge in a chosen field of practice and receive preparation in nursing education. Course work in nursing education emphasizes developing in the role as an educator and/or faculty member. Emphasis is on application of theories and principles of teaching/learning in a variety of healthcare settings and academic nursing settings. Through seminar discussions and individual and group projects, students will explore issues in teaching, curriculum development, evaluation methodologies, technology mediated learning strategies, and current practice standards. Teaching practical experiences are designed to provide beginning experiences in the classroom, clinical settings, and in the use of current technologies in simulation or online learning that relate to the role of the teacher in an academic and/or healthcare setting. This approach allows a student to integrate prior and current learning while providing flexibility and scholarship. Analyze moral, ethical and legal issues that impact the delivery of nursing care and nursing education in a diverse, global world. 2. Integrate theory, research and practice using critical thinking and effective problem solving for the advancement of the nursing profession. 3. Utilize technological media to educate and communicate collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders throughout the global world. 4. Synthesize principles of education, innovative methodologies and learning approaches to achieve curricular outcomes. 5. Model professional, scholarly and leadership behaviors that foster critical thinking and life. Admission The NAU MSN program reviews applications and admits students every academic quarter. Admission decisions are made and communicated in writing once the program application and admission requirements have been completed and reviewed. 1. Admission criteria includes the following: 1. Graduation from a baccalaureate degree program in nursing from an accredited institution. 2. Current active unencumbered RN license from any state within the United States. Evidence of current licensure must be present in the student?s departmental file. 3. Minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale during the BSN degree completion. Applicants who do not meet the cumulative GPA requirement are reviewed on a case by case basis and may be admitted under probationary status. 2. All nursing prefix (NS) courses and MT6200 Leading the Organization I must be completed through NAU online.* 3.
