The Program Community Health Education Option: This non-teaching major is offered for students interested in pursuing community health , health promotion or work-site careers in the public sector. Upon completion of the health education major candidates will: Demonstrate the dispositions, knowledge and skills necessary to assess individual and community health related needs, Demonstrate the dispositions, knowledge and skills necessary to plan an effective comprehensive and sequential health education curriculum and programs based on student needs and interests, community values and health issues, Be able to successfully implement health education curriculum and programs that focus of health literacy, Be able to consistently and effectively evaluate, revise and update education programs, Be knowledgeable about health education services available within the school, community and state to assist students and their families, Act as a resource for health education, Have acquired communication skills that will enable them to effectively communicate the health related needs and interests of students to administration, families and community. Be able to sit for the Certified Health Education Specialist exam upon graduation. Career Opportunities Graduates in community and school health education will find employment opportunities in community and voluntary health agencies, clinical and corporate settings, and elementary and secondary school systems.
