Program Information Be the first to tell the news by entering the exciting world of journalism . Learn news writing, mass media, and news editing in addition to applied journalism. We use the same software that top level newspapers, advertising firms, and design firms use. Our program provides many opportunities for hands-on-experience. The student newspaper--The Viewpoint--is printed every three weeks and is also available online. The Journalism concentration at Northeast Community College is designed to acquaint students with various basic techniques used in newspaper and other media. Students may earn an associate of arts degree in two years and put their skills directly to work, or transfer into a bachelor?s degree program at a four-year college. Students gain valuable skills and experience writing and editing the college newspaper. Career fields include newspaper publishing, magazine publishing, book publishing, writing, and education. Journalism scholarships are available. Most of the journalism course work is offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays on the main campus and via distance learning at the West Point and South Sioux City centers, which allows flexibility.
