Postsecondary Automotive Mechanics and Service Technology is an instructional program that prepares individuals to engage in the servicing and maintenance of all types of automobiles. Instruction includes the diagnosis of malfunctions and repair of engines, fuel, electrical, cooling, brake systems, and drive train and suspension systems. Instruction is also provided in the adjustment and repair of individual components such as transmissions and fuel systems. The ability to diagnose the source of the problem quickly and accurately requires good reasoning ability and thorough knowledge of automobiles. The Automotive Mechanics and Service Technology program provides the graduate with the basic and technical knowledge needed to repair and service automobiles. The graduate learns troubleshooting, computer diagnosis, parts machining, and repair of automobile concepts. The laboratory is designed and operated in a manner similar to that of an actual automotive mechanics business. Students may satisfy the Associate of Applied Science degree requirements by completing English Composition (3 hours), Public Speaking (3 hours), Computer Elective (3 hours), Social/Behavioral Science Elective (3 hours), and Fine Arts Elective (3 hours). The student must complete MAT 1313 or a combination of a three (3) hour math above MAT 0123 and a four (4) hour laboratory science class.
