Journalism Research from Northeastern University is a Campus Master Journalism degree that prepares you for a Communications career. This program is designed for those with significant professional journalism experience who wish to prepare for careers as journalism educators or who wish to do writing and research in a specialized field. Research Concentration students take courses in literary journalism , press criticism and ethics and also choose a specialty area from a wide variety of graduate courses outside the department in areas such as sociology, criminal justice, political science, history and cinema studies. Research Concentration students also write a thesis examining a major issue in the media. Qualified students may be offered an opportunity to teach basic journalism to undergraduates to help defray some of their tuition costs. The Curriculum: The Research Concentration curriculum consists of nine courses including Perspectives on Journalism and Professional Ethics, Literature of Journalism and a required thesis course. Students also take three courses outside the School of Journalism related to their stated research interest. A grade point average of 3.0 is required for graduation.
