The department offers a graduate program leading to a Master of Arts degree in sociology . Thirty semester hours of academic work, completed with a B (3.000) average or better, are required for the degree. A Master of Arts paper completed at the end of the 2nd year of study is required. The program consists of four required and six elective courses. Students are encouraged to fashion a program of study suited to their interests. To this end, all entering students should consult with the graduate coordinator. The graduate coordinator helps the student to articulate interests and plan courses, but also suggests other faculty members whose areas of interest and competence intersect with those of the student and with whom the student might consult on a regular basis. A student will be assigned an adviser. Students may terminate or initiate an adviser/advisee relationship at any time, simply by consulting with and informing the parties concerned.
