I have been an RRT since 1984 but not employed in the RT profession since 1986. In the next 25 years I was employed as an RN in mostly respiratory related areas. In June I obtained my Arkansas LRCP license and have had little response to my numerous applications, I have yet to schedule an interview. I have been told that the employers want "recent experience" only. To go back to college for the AD degree (I have a certificate in RT) has been a consideration to establish contacts in the field and refresh my knowledge, but before I invest the time and money in the program I wish to know the hire rate for the RT graduates. On the RT discussion sites that I have been on there are numerous comments from both experienced "seasoned" RTs and new graduates that are getting the same lack of response. I recently recertified my CRT by passing the NBRC exam with a 94% scaled score.
