Within five to seven years of completing entry level certification, the practicing teacher must qualify for the Professional Teacher Certificate. Though a graduate degree is not required for the second and final certificate, a masters and certification are often pursued simultaneously. Goal The Northwest University M.Ed. and Professional Certification program is designed to serve three practicing teacher populations: Bachelors graduates holding the Residency Teacher Certificate who seek the M.Ed. degree and the Professional Certificate Bachelors graduates holding the Residency Teacher Certificate who seek the Professional Certificate only Master in Teaching or other masters graduates holding the Residency Teacher Certificate who seek only the Professional Certificate Scope Built around the second level of licensure, the two-year, thirty-credit curriculum offers preparation for the Washington State Professional Teacher Certificate, as well as advanced coursework on learning theory, educational standards, and research methodology, culminating in a graduate-level action research paper.
