General Studies from Northwest University is a Campus Bachelor Liberal Studies degree that prepares you for a Liberal Arts career. The BA in General Studies is an individually designed major option for students who wish to create a program of study by combining selected courses from two or more majors. Students are required to identify a central organizing theme of their General Studies Major and design it under the guidance and Supervision of a General Studies Advisor (Provost or designate). A minimum of 20 of the major credits must be upper division. Students will meet all General Education Requirements. Courses cannot double count within the major and as General Education Requirements. Process to Design a General Studies Major Identify the unifying theme of your program and present your concept to the General Studies Chair (the Provost or designate). Prospective majors must submit and have approved proposal before entrance to the General Studies major in order to register for any courses. In conference with an Adviser appointed by the General Studies Chair, make a list of the courses you have completed or plan to take that will apply toward your academic goal. This list must comprise a minimum of 45 semester credits, all of which are related to your area of concentration. These courses must come from at least two departments, but may come from any number of areas, so long as interrelationships are discernible. A minimum of 20 credits must be 3000- and 4000- level courses. Draft a statement that describes your proposed major theme and discusses the interrelationships among the courses you have chosen.
