SOCIAL WORK PROGRAM MISSION: The mission of the Social Work Program at Northwestern Oklahoma State University is: To prepare graduates to provide high quality social work services to the people of northwest Oklahoma; to provide a forum for the development and dissemination of information and resources to improve the social work profession and promote the well being of the people and communities of Northwestern Oklahoma; and to be active in the community in promoting social justice and equal opportunity. The following goals of the program are derived from the mission: 1. The student will understand and demonstrate in practice the values and ethics of the social work profession. 2. The student will understand and apply the theories and knowledge of the profession to practice tasks dealing with individuals, families, groups, organizations and communities. 3. The student will demonstrate an understanding of and competency in the generalist skills of social work practice. 4. The student will demonstrate an understanding of professional social work\\\'s historical commitment to a culturally diverse society; skills in culturally competent practice, and a commitment to ending discrimination and promoting social justice in our society. 5. The student will demonstrate an understanding and competency in the use of evidence based theories, practice methods, and evaluation processes for both personal and agency outcomes. 6. Students will understand and be able to apply the Generalist Intervention Model of social work practice to the issues faced by the people, organizations and communities of rural Northwestern Oklahoma. 7. Students will develop the foundation level knowledge, values and skills necessary to prepare them for graduate school in social work. The objectives of the social work program are derived from the mission and goals of the program. 1. The student will demonstrate mastery of the knowledge, values and skills required for generalist social work practice. 2. Students will understand and demonstrate in practice the values of the social work profession. 3. Students will function and practice in a manner that demonstrates understanding and respect for people of diverse racial, ethnic, cultural and economic backgrounds. 4. Students will seek to understand and combat oppression and discrimination in society, and in their own practice. 5. Students will demonstrate a respect for cultural diversity, and will demonstrate cultural competency in their practice with clients, organizations and communities. 6. Students will demonstrate the ability to analyze and influence social policy development and implementation. 7. Students will demonstrate an understanding of the history and goals of the social work profession. 8. Students will demonstrate mastery of evidence based theories of life span development; and of the impact of various social systems on behavior. 9. Students will demonstrate the ability to work within formal human service organizations, and to take an active part in ongoing organizational renewal. 10. Students will demonstrate the ability to use supervision and educational resources to assess and improve their practice and effectiveness. 11. Students will demonstrate mastery of social science research methods, and will apply valid processes to the evaluation of their own professional practice. 12. Students will demonstrate an understanding of the social and human needs, social service delivery systems, and unique requirements of the people of Northwestern Oklahoma.
