Core courses provide a strong foundation in nonprofit management tools, methods, skills and competencies. The Nonprofit Management core emphasizes critical and strategic thinking, managing and leading others, effective writing and speaking, fundraising and marketing, and financial oversight. Students explore critical areas of major change in the nonprofit sector, program evaluation and the changing relationship with government. Strategic positioning is the focus of the final capstone course. Students who are not currently working in the nonprofit sector have hands-on exposure to the day-to-day realities of nonprofit organizations through a practicum experience. The major also provides students with the flexibility to explore a range of related additional areas in greater depth. These electives include selections from Nonprofit Management and Business, Economics, Communication Arts, Human Services and Political Science.
