DESCRIPTION: The Fire Science Technology diploma program is designed to prepare students for an entry level career in municipal, industrial, state, and federal fire departments. The program does not include the required training to become a certified firefighter in the State of Georgia. For certified firefighters, this program adds skills and knowledge that can enhance their career prospects. The primary mission of the Fire Science Technology program is identification and mitigation of emergencies in order to preserve life and property. The duties of the firefighter include, but are not limited to, extinguishing and controlling fires, performing rescue and evacuation work incidental to fire control, accidents, natural disasters, and other incidents where human life is threatened. Firefighters also render emergency aid to those in need. The program provides learning opportunities which introduce, develop, and reinforce academic and occupational knowledge, skills, and attitudes required for job acquisition, retention, and advancement. Emphasis is placed on providing our students with a depth of knowledge about fire protection services, encompassing all areas of incendiaryfire management and administration, prevention and inspection, terrorism incident management, arson investigation and much more.
