Ohio Dominican Graphic Design students develop critical thinking, balanced with technical skill and abilities, by thoroughly exploring the graphic design process and problem solving methodologies. As part of a liberal arts institution, we educate the whole person, and in doing so, graphic design students learn to create systems for effective communication that are informed by a well-rounded education and sense of social responsibilities. KEY POINTS ABOUT THE ART MAJOR The ODU graphic design program provides a solid foundation in traditional studio methods fused with the modern digital practice. Courses emphasize both conceptual development and production. Students receive technical instruction where they acquire skills in photography and photo manipulation, typography, layout, and the creation of digital graphics . CAREER POSSIBILITIES Our graduates are prepared for careers in design, communications, printing, public relations, marketing and advertising, and other businesses that depend upon graphic design for effective communication. This program prepares students for work in large organizations or for developing smaller individual or freelance practices. ON CAMPUS OPPORTUNITIES Students take advantage of portfolio building opportunities by working with community members on local projects, extracurricular workshops, independent study and the Senior Portfolio Seminar. These activities prepare ODU Graphic Design majors for the culmination of their work in the Senior Thesis Exhibition.
