American Dance Pedagogy Bachelor from Oklahoma City University details

Program Format: Campus Program Level: Bachelor

American Dance Pedagogy from Oklahoma City University is a Campus Bachelor Teaching degree that prepares you for a Education career. Our Bachelor of Science in American Dance Pedagogy degree was designed for the student who wants a life-long career as an extraordinarily well-prepared dance teacher rather than a career as a performer. Many ?dance pedagogy? programs offered by colleges and universities in North America consist only of one or two low credit-hour ballet or modern pedagogy courses tagged onto existing dance degrees. Our degree provides students with a depth and breadth of study seldom attempted by other dance programs. Students are required to take five credit hours of tap pedagogy, five credit hours of jazz pedagogy, and five credit hours of ballet pedagogy. Instead of one course in dance history, they take three courses, one of which covers the history of teaching dance. Instead of a few credit hours of choreography, our American Dance Teacher Program undergraduates take six credit hours and face challenges such as, ?choreograph a three-minute dance in the style of Fosse for fourteen-year-old dancers at an intermediate level. Now, choreograph to the same music for eighteen-year-old dancers at an advanced level.? Request Information Students study dance health, anatomy and physiology for dancers, dance studio technology, and dance studio management. They also take courses in management, accounting, economics, marketing, advertising, and public relations. In addition to the above, they receive a solid liberal arts education through our general education requirements. The degree requires students to take technique classes in jazz, tap, and ballet and offers opportunities for students to enroll in pointe, partnering, musical theater dance, and rhythm tap. Additionally, dance pedagogy majors may audition for our American Spirit Dance Company, Spirit of Grace Liturgical Dancers, OCU Pep Dancers, Student Choreography Show, and musicals and operas.
