Program Format: Campus Program Level: Bachelor

Biology from Our Lady of the Lake University - San Antonio is a Campus Bachelor Biology degree that prepares you for a Science career. Preparing students for careers in the health professions, environmental science, teaching and research, the Biology Department at OLLU follows the mission of the Sisters of Divine Providence who founded the university over 100 years ago. Like Sister Mary Clare Metz, after whom Metz Hall, the science and mathematics building, is named, the goal of our faculty is to help students reach their goals. In our classes, which are limited to 24 students, we get to know each student personally offering him or her the help they need to succeed. Faculty and students share the work and the fun that goes with learning. We take pride in the fact that we have up-to-date labs in which undergraduates do their learning, and that give them hands-on experience with instrumentation that, at other schools, might be reserved for graduate students. We also offer many opportunities for undergraduate research. Course work can lead to either a B.A or B.S. degree in Biology. Approximately 20 students graduate from the Biology Program each year, going on to enter the work force directly for employers like Southwest Foundation for Biomedical Research, the University of Texas Health Science Center, Brooks Air Force Base, Ilex Oncology, South Texas Blood and Tissue Center, and the Guadalupe-Blanco River Authority. Other graduates go on to professional schools in medicine, dentistry, optometry, veterinary medicine, pharmacy, physical therapy, nursing, clinical laboratory science and cytogenetics. A large number of our graduates select graduate school studying biochemistry, pharmacology, neuroscience, toxicology or cellular and molecular biology.
