Our Lady of the Lake University???s Bachelor of Arts degree in communications disorders prepares students for graduate study. The degree provides the basic coursework required for entry into any graduate program in communication disorders in the country. The master???s degree is required for licensure as a speech-language pathologist by the state of Texas and for certification by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). Students who opt to earn only the bachelor???s degree in communication disorders can obtain employment in various positions requiring a general bachelor\\\'s degree . Students will meet the coursework and observation requirements to be licensed as a speech-language pathology assistant by the state of Texas. However, students will not be able to obtain the supervised practicum in the bachelor\\\'s program. Students obtaining the bachelor???s degree will have programmed observation of diagnostic and intervention sessions with a variety of patients at the on-campus speech and hearing clinic. All undergraduate students have the opportunity to receive programmed observation experiences through the on-campus Harry Jersig Speech and Hearing Center, which serves adults and children with communication disabilities.
