Massage Therapy Asian Bodywork from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine LLC is a Campus Associate Massage Therapy degree that prepares you for a Healthcare career. Associate of Science (Massage Therapy/Asian Bodywork) The Associate of Science (Massage Therapy/Asian Bodywork) degree program demonstrates significant training to massage clients and prospective employers. Graduates of the Associate in Science will be prepared to enter a career in massage therapy either in private practice, or in the employment of another qualified healthcare practitioner such as an acupuncturist, a health spa owner, or a chiropractor\\\'s office. In addition the program offers general education courses to serve as a basis for lifelong learning. These classes will help prepare the student for higher education and careers that require the ability to think independently, critically evaluate and apply written and numerical information, present cogent written and oral communication, and think critically about the influences of art and philosophy. This program is built around the 600 - hour core massage therapy curriculum, but also includes 30 units of General Education within the 64.5 units required to complete the program. The massage portion of the program emphasizes Oriental medical theory, tui na, and the development of the student\\\'s ability to understand the causes and symptoms of disease. This ability will allow Pacific massage practitioners to customize their massage therapy to their client\\\'s individual needs. Asian Bodywork Therapy has grown into a recognized specialty supported by the American Organization of Bodywork Therapies of Asia and certified by the National Commission for the Certification of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. Students in this program receive an introduction to the valuable theories of Chinese medicine and specialize in a multitude of Asian bodywork therapies, including tui na, shiatsu, Thai massage and others. The Associate of Science (Massage Therapy/Asian Bodywork) program prepares students for certification by the National Commission for the Certification of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine and by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork. Graduates are also eligible for membership in the American Organization of Bodywork Therapies of Asia if additional non-required courses in the Associate of Applied Sciences degree program are taken for this purpose. Graduates of the program are also eligible to apply to the Bachelor of Health Science (Asian Holistic Health and Massage) or Master of Science (Traditional Oriental Medicine) programs offered at Pacific. Graduates of the Associate of Science (Massage Therapist/Asian Bodywork) degree will: Demonstrate ethical behavior in their personal and professional lives. Demonstrate fundamental body therapy skills. Know and demonstrate essential, hygienic considerations in the performance of massage . Know and respect conditions contraindicating massage. Be eligible for the examination administered by National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork and National Commission for the Certification of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. Demonstrate competent and professional communication and human relations skills. Possess the knowledge and skill to run their own private practice massage business or become employed by other healthcare practitioners who utilize massage as part of their client treatment. Possess skills that may lead to management postions in their industry. Possess working knowledge and the ability to utilize information literacy skills to do further research and study. Demonstrate a deeper appreciation of the historical/philosophical context in which Oriental Medicine is based. Be eligible to apply to the bachelor\\\'s and/or master\\\'s degree at Pacific or other higher education institutions. Associate of Science students will successfully complete the following courses to earn their degree .
