It was designed to formally train chiropractic staff members to work in chiropractic clinics. It is the gold standard in staff training, offering both formal education and practical application in all areas of the chiropractic clinic. It includes rotations through the front offices of the Palmer clinics and a 120-hour externship at a field clinic. These experiences allow A.S.C.T. students to put their skills to the test and gain on-the job experience before graduation. The A.S.C.T. degree trains students in all front and back office duties. Front office skills gained are: greeting and directing patients, scheduling appointments, managing the financial records, filing insurance claims, marketing the practice, and adhering to Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) regulations. Back office clinical skills gained include: obtaining comprehensive patient case histories, completing physical, orthopedic, and neurological exams and assisting the doctor with chiropractic-specific exams, taking and developing diagnostic-quality X-rays (with certification), administering various forms of rehabilitation, such as electrical muscle stimulation, ultrasound, hot/cold therapies and range of motion exercises and doing patient education, in the office and out in the community.
