The Graduate Program in Acoustics offers two Master\\\'s level programs. The Master of Science (M.S.) degree program contains a strong research component and requires the development of a thesis based upon this research. The Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) degree program involves a research report in place of a thesis and additional course credits in lieu of research credits. This latter program is particularly suited to nonresident students whose career goals include applied engineering or who participate in the Distance Education Program. Upon matriculation, a resident student must confer with the Program Chair who will assign a temporary academic adviser to assist in planning a program of study. This adviser will give final approval of the student\\\'s course program prior to registration for each semester. Before the end of the student\\\'s first year of graduate study, he or she should select a thesis or report topic and obtain the agreement of a member of the graduate faculty to act as permanent adviser. The student should feel free to approach any member of the graduate faculty for advise and counsel in this connection. A student may subsequently change advisers. It is imperative that the Program Office be notified of any such change. A change in thesis project and adviser may mean the cancellation of an assistantship supported by that project.
