Secondary Education and K-12 Education from Peru State College is a Campus Bachelor Secondary Education degree that prepares you for a Education career. The Peru State College School of Education offers teacher preparation programs in the following fields and subjects for secondary and K-12 education. Secondary and K-12 education majors must complete 2 practicum experiences. The first required practicum is embedded in EDUC 208 Teacher Education: Principles & Practices, which provides students with an introduction to teacher education and an opportunity to spend 20-30 clock hours in an actual classroom. Students then complete a second practicum that requires 80 clock hours in an actual classroom of their specific content area. Art (K-12) and Vocal/ Instrumental Music (K-12) majors will split their second practicum in half to include experiences with both elementary and secondary students. Student teaching is the culminating experience where the student demonstrates his/her knowledge and skills as a pre-service teacher. This supervised 16-week experience provides an opportunity to practice teaching in a supportive and developmental setting. Similar to the second practicum, Art (K-12) and Vocal/Instrumental Music (K-12) majors will split their student teaching placement in half to include experience with both elementary and secondary students. Outcomes With a professional degree in secondary or K-12 education , careers are possible in Public and Private Schools. Also, many secondary and K-12 education majors add a coaching endorsement with only 15 additional credits.
