Your gunsmithing skills will be developed in a progressive hands-on environment best described as flexible and individual, with minimum requirements. As a gusmithing student, you evolve from simple hand-made gages and templates to more complex specialized gunsmithing tools, using lathes, milling machines, and grinders. The progression then goes on to metal finishing, stock work, barrel fitting, custom alterations, and repair work. You begin with simple hand made gages and finish with complete custom rifles. The PCC program enables you to learn by performing the actual gunsmithing tasks needed to complete realistic projects in a shop-like setting, not in a traditional classroom. The core five-semester gunsmithing program includes 2,080 hands-on contact hours. In addition we?ll give you the freedom to pursue and develop your individual interests as long as the minimum requirements of the program are met. Piedmont Community College has former students using the skills developed here working throughout the industry from small one-man gunshops to major firearm companies and in related skill positions such as machine shops and maintenance departments.
