Overview PLNU offers a communications major and minor through its Department of Communications and Theater. As a multi-faceted major with a wide variety of career opportunities, it is one of the most popular majors at the university. Lower division requirements include courses on interpersonal and small group communication, journalism, and speech and debate. Upper division requirements focus on communication theories. Communication majors also have the chance to choose one of two concentrations: societal communication and public address. Societal communication includes sociology, psychology, and business writing courses. The public address concentration focuses on oral communication and requires a practicum.
