While the core represents the foundational knowledge of the LIS field, topics courses respond to new developments and research in information science and technology. Elective course offerings provide breadth and depth to the curriculum across all the many areas of speiclization. Students interested in carrying out a special research project under the direction of faculty, may choose to take the independent study course. Four core required courses (12 credits) and eight elective courses (24 credits), make up the 36 credit M.S.LIS degree . A maximum of six credits that must be from an ALA accredited LIS graduate program, may be transferred to Pratt-SILS.
