Program Format: Campus Program Level: Bachelor

Theatre from Presbyterian College is a Campus Bachelor Theatre degree that prepares you for a Art and Design career. The theatre program at Presbyterian College is committed to providing a comprehensive education in theatre history, art, and craft. The department encourages active participation from majors and non-majors alike, fostering a life long love of theater and an awareness of its ability to help us understand and shape our world. The department offers a Major in Theatre with a variety of concentrations, as well as the Major in Fine Arts for those students whose talents cannot be confined to one area. Our course offerings include classes in theater history, acting and directing, scenography and dance. In the past, students have used their experience in theatre at Presbyterian College to prepare for careers in theatre , for graduate studies in theatre and film, and for careers in fields as diverse as teaching, health services, and law enforcement. The liberal arts tradition of theatre instruction provides students with an interdisciplinary approach to knowledge, and fosters the development of creative problem solving. The faculty in theatre and dance believe that the liberal arts tradition is the best background for future theatre artists. It is only by understanding our own culture, and the cultures of others, that we will be prepared to comment on that culture in a meaningful way. If, as English dramatist John Whiting has stated, ?the purpose of art is to raise doubt [while] the purpose of entertainment is to reassure?, we are committed to creating the artists, and not just the entertainers, of tomorrow. It is only by raising doubt that we can test and refine our beliefs. To that end, Presbyterian College is committed to producing theatre that will challenge its audience to think about important issues in the world. View more details on Presbyterian College .
